Atlanta based, internationally touring singer/songwriter Doria Roberts has lived on the road since performing at the original Lilith Fair in 1999 where she was plucked from the side stage to perform solos with Sarah McLachlan and the Indigo Girls. She quit her day job the next morning and since then has performed nearly 150 shows a year, appearing in listening rooms, theaters and festivals across the US, Canada, Japan, France, Sweden and Australia.
She has shared the stage with folk and blues legends Odetta, The Holmes Brothers and Janis Ian, world music darling Angelique Kidjo, as well as pop favorites John Mayer, Me'shell N'degeocello and many others. She has also shared the theatrical stage with Jane Fonda, playwright and poet Pearl Cleage, and actor Kenny Leon in productions of Eve Ensler’s “Vagina Monologues”. In 2010, she was also chosen for a tour + artist residency at the Chateauvallon artist enclave in Ollioules, France and was one of twelve finalists in the GRAMMYLive: Gig of Lifetime contest where she represented the entire South Atlantic region for a chance to perform at the GRAMMYs in Los Angeles.
Doria has independently released seven studio projects on her own Hurricane Doria Records imprint. Her latest is a musical tribute to the late civil rights singer/songwriter Odetta entitled “Blackeyed Susan”.
Roberts has received the International Orfeo Musica Humantarian Award formt he Tupilak Arts Consortium in Sweden, The Anderson Leadership Award from the National Gay + Lesbian Task Force and was nominated for the Colin Higgins Courage Award for lending her music and talent to fundraising and awareness efforts for communities in need around the globe. She is currently raising funds with downloads of her song “Gravity + Grace” for the Half the Sky Movement, which strives to end oppression of woman and girls worldwide.
She also co-owns We Serve People, LLC, a small restaurant group focused on both food and philanthropy.
