Jimmy Webb, Special Guest Robin Spielberg - 10/11Friday, October 11 2013 6pm Doors / 8pm Start
WNUR 89.3 Chicago's Sound Experiment Welcomes Jimmy Webb
A true living legend of songwriting, Jimmy Webb’s been crafting amazing songs, many of which have become cherished standards, for some forty years. And he’s still doing it. A brand new Webb album, Just Across The River, featuring duets with many luminaries (including Jackson Browne, Michael McDonald, Glen Campbell, Vince Gill, Billy Joel, Linda Ronstadt and more) has just been released, and it might serve as the bridge that connects this songwriter with his famous songs in the public mind. Though some might still not know his name, they know the songs: “Wichita Lineman,” “By The Time I Get To Phoenix,” “Galveston,” “The Moon’s A Harsh Mistress,” “All I Know,” “The Highwayman,” “Up, Up and Away,” “MacArthur Park,” and many more. And those are just the famous ones.
Webb is one of those rare songwriters who manages to bring a genuine measure of magic to everything he touches.
Still Within the Sound of My Voice, the latest from cultural figure Jimmy Webb, will be released September 10 on eOne Music. The 14-song LP follows his critically acclaimed 2010 release, Just Across the River. The new album features appearances from 14 guest artists, including Lyle Lovett, Carly Simon, Keith Urban, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Joe Cocker, Marc Cohn, America, Kris Kristofferson, Amy Grant, Brian Wilson and Art Garfunkel.
“Few singers blend grit and grandeur like Jimmy Webb…[his] voice is like an old Mustang heading through a treacherous yet often gorgeous landscape.” —Rolling Stone
“At an age when other singers are losing their voices, Mr. Webb finds his mercurial, unguarded, singing… attaining the gritty authority of a softhearted country outlaw’s…Mr. Webb is still at the top of his game.”— Stephen Holden The New York Times
