About Pert' Near Sandstone
Take old time music off the back porch, throw out the hillbilly reputation, and put it in the hands of a group of guys that like to work hard and play even harder. Pert Near Sandstone rejuvenates American stringband music with raw energy; they play tightly-crafted original material that lends itself to the modern audience, as well as being stewards of the old-time and bluegrass traditions. They are just as at home playing fully acoustic in the traditional style as they are plugged in at an indie rock venue. From saloons to theaters, hollering into a single microphone and laying thick rhythm on driving fiddle melodies, their sweat-inducing, foot-stomping live performances keep crowds begging for more all night long.
The Leadfoot Band is a premier post-bluegrass quartet from the 'not-quite hot bed' of bluegrass acoustic music, Chicago's southside. Recently reformed after a 5+ year hiatus, Leadfoot is releasing their first album in 6 years self-titled The Leadfoot Band with guest musician Pat Sansone of Wilco on keys.
Leadfoot has picked up steam and spreading the wings of possibility pushing their hard driving brand of rock & bluegrass influenced acoustic music farther than before. Breaking it down to the bare bones of strings made up of Steve Haberichter on mandolin, Mike Vanier on acoustic guitar and Garrett 'Geebs' Degnan on bass, all held together with the tight rhythm of Mike Holtz on his minimalist drum set, the band produces more sound and than you would expect. Tied together with 3-part harmonies, Leadfoot's multi-dimentional grooves will vary from intense, to pocket groove, to 2-steppin', to straight bluegrass and newgrass to plain straight headbanging. Not what you normally get with a string trio and snap drum kit, but Leadfoot is definitely not your normal acoustic quartet.
The Leadfoot Band has played all around the Midwest from Michigan to the Rocky Mountains playing with such artists as Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Drew Emmitt Band, Darol Anger, Split Lip Rayfield, Acoustic Hot Tuna, Bill Nershi from the String Cheese Incident, Hot Buttered Rum, Particle, Jeff Austin and Dave Johnson, Vince Welnick Band, Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon, Sarah Watkins from Nickel Creek, The Special Consensus, and The Iguanas to name a few.
