ABOUT MIRA AWAD
Israeli-Palestinian actress, singer and songwriter Mira Awad was born in Rama village in the Galilee to a Palestinian father and a Bulgarian mother. She studied at the Rimon School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
Mira has collaborated with a wide range of world-famous musicians, from Noa (Achinoam Nini) on her album "Now", Idan Raichel on his second album "Mema'amakim", with Greek singer George Dalaras, and the hip hop artist Guy Mar. Mira also worked as an actress with the Tel-Aviv Cameri Theatre, she was also the Eliza Doolittle of the Israeli staging of the world renown musical "My fair Lady", and is starring on the TV series "Arab Labor".
She featured in the movie "The Bubble", directed by Eytan Fox and recorded the theme songs for the films "Forgiveness" by director Udi Aloni, and "Lemon tree" by Eran Riklis. She represented Israel in the Eurovision song contest 2009 alongside Noa with the song "There must be another way" from their duet album carrying the same name, released by Universal Music.
Her debut solo album "Bahlawan-Acrobat" was released in May 2009, and was produced by the famous Israeli guitarist Amos Ever-Hadani. She was recently signed as a Sony Spain artist and is currently working on her second album with Spanish musical producer Carlos Jean.
Mira is very much identified with the agenda of dialogue and co-existence between the Jewish and the Palestinian people, and has dedicated most of her career raising a call for peace.
She will be giving this concert in City Winery New-York one day after singing at the Liberty medal ceremony in Philadelphia at which Tony Blair will receive the 2010 Liberty Prize from Bill Clinton.
