THE DUKE AND THE KING
Partner with RIVERKEEPER
For fan-generated Video Contest celebrating the “Hudson River”

Acclaimed band The Duke and the King have launched a unique user-generated promotion in cooperation with leading clean water watch dog organization, Riverkeeper, where music fans can create their own video tributes to the Hudson River, to celebrate the beauty and majesty of this waterway.

Under the program, fans are invited to produce their own ‘music video’ to the band’s song “Hudson River”, which is available for free download at http://bit.ly/tdtk_hudson.  Fans can produce the video using video and/or still images, tied to the theme of the song and ‘what the Hudson means to them’.  Videos will be judged by a panel of band members and Riverkeeper staff; the winning video maker will receive a Grand Prize of a guitar signed by the band, with five runner-ups receiving signed vinyl LPs and 7” singles from the album.

The 4-piece band, led by Simone Felice, are launching the contest in advance of the August 16th US release, of their self-titled album (out on So Recordings)..  The album, which captures the band’s essence of a ramshackle travelling circus in which different voices tell different stories., has already seen remarkable acclaim in the UK:

“Imagine, if you will, a cross between Marvin Gaye and James Taylor; Smokey Robinson and Paul Simon; Sly and the Family Stone and Neil Young. Okay, got it? You’re halfway towards getting a feel towards the gorgeous and painful, yet warm, country-soul sound of the Duke and the King. Utterly devastating”
Р   Eddie Devlin, Q Magazine

“An outstanding album – one of the albums of the year.”
– Sunday Times

The band, based in Woodstock, NY has long valued the important role of the Hudson River in the region’s life and culture.   These sentiments come through in the featured song, and the band is honored to work with Riverkeeper to help spread this important message to the people of the region.

“This collaboration with Duke and the King is a great way to bring awareness to the Hudson River during the time of year when people can experience it the most,” said Tina Posterli, Press Officer for Riverkeeper. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of a project that will enable people to express what this vital natural resource means to them.”

To enter, fans can download the song for free at the contest page on Riverkeeper.org:  http://bit.ly/tdtk_hudson, create their own video and upload it to a Youtube channel, then e-mail contest@themusebox.net -with a link to the video.  Marketing agency The MuseBox will be managing a special contest channel for all entries.  The contest is now open on the Riverkeeper site – deadline for entries is September 9th, 2011, and the winners will be announced on September 23rd.
