Singer-songwriter Howie Day is known for his powerful one-man shows, connecting with audiences through his charm, humor, the strength of his songwriting, and a warm tenor voice that "soars into fluttering, high registers, but also grates with real, pleading grit," as one critic put it. Unlike most solo performers who perform mainly with just an acoustic guitar, Day uses various foot pedals and "loop" chords to enhance his playing. This "looping effect" allows him to build up a song by playing rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, and even tap on his guitar to produce a drum sound. When the whole process is complete, it sounds as if a full band is on stage. Day also uses this process on his voice, harmonizing with himself. The whole process is done in front of the audience in real time.
Beginning his career as a solo artist in the late 1990s, Day self-financed and self-released his first album, Australia, in 2000. Several years after releasing his commercial breakthrough 2003 album Stop All The World Now, featuring the Top 10 radio hits, "She Says" and the platinum smash hit "Collide,” Day breaks his silence with his long-awaited third studio album, Sound the Alarm. The album is a stunning collection of the kind of emotionally resonant, melody-minded pop-rock gems that have earned Day a legion of devoted fans over the past 10 years.
Epic Records will release Sound the Alarm on August 25th, 2009.
