Please join us on Monday, October 19, 2009 at City Winery for an unforgettable night! A Night of Comedy with Judy Blume & Friends. This is not your run-of-the-mill party. Fearless writers, artists, actors, comedians, musicians and filmmakers who have fought back against censorship will riff on growing up, puberty, or how they found out the answers to the questions they were afraid to ask.
Nothing is off limits. Nothing. Now that's a party!
Featuring: Elna Baker, Richard Belzer, Judy Blume, Alice Eve Cohen, Junot Díaz, Rachel Dratch, Hannah Friedman, Liz Garbus, Martin Garbus, Judy Gold, Bob Holman, Paul Mooney, Mary-Louise Parker, Amy Sohn, Lili Taylor, Lizz Winstead. Special video appearances by Michelle Branch, Meg Cabot, Whoopi Goldberg, Chelsea Handler, Joan Rivers, Dar Williams.
The Event Chair is Dan Glickman, Chairman & CEO, Motion Picture Association of America.
Judy Blume has a special place in the hearts and minds of Americans. For over 2 decades, her books have answered the hard questions about growing up. But did you also know that Judy Blume is one of the most censored writers in the U.S.? Can you imagine going through childhood without ever reading her books like Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret; Blubber; Deenie; and Forever.
NCAC is honoring Judy and paying tribute to her longstanding defense of free speech and her courageous battles against all kinds of censorship.
