  • 3:30pm

Yehonatan Geffen

Yehonatan Geffen is a gifted poet, author, playwright, translator, lyricist and satiric performer. His live performances include recitals of his works, monologues and discourse as well as performing his extensive collection of songs. Geffen was born in Nahalal, Israel to the Dayan family and served as an officer in the Israeli Paratroopers and in the Golani infantry brigade. He studied English and English Literature in Cambridge, England, before returning to Israel where he spent many years before becoming the London and New York correspondent for the Israeli Maariv daily newspaper.

To date Geffen has published about 20 books. Winner of the Acum Honorary Award for Life Achievements, Geffen is also the recipient of the Mordechai Bernstein Literary Prize and many other awards and grants. He currently contributes a weekly column to Maariv.

Geffen will be appearing at City Winery for a special recital and engagement with the audience, conducted in both English and Hebrew. He will dig into his deep cannon of work, to entertain, incite, educate and illuminate the audience with the depth of his understanding of the human condition.

Acclaimed pianist Shlomi Shaban will support with musical accompaniment of select elements of Yehonatan’s performance. Shaban and Geffen have collaborated extensively in the past and will join forces again for a spirited exploration of Jewish identity.
