About Joseph Arthur
p>Arthur has toured with the likes of R.E.M., Ben Harper, and Gomez and has had his song “In the Sun” covered by Chris Martin of Coldplay and remixed by Justin Timberlake. A painter, a soloist and collaborator Arthur’s prodigious talents prompted Peter Gabriel to personally sign him to Real World. He is smart, surprising and infinitely rewarding, constantly stirring the imagination. A mature Burgundy in it’s prime, lashings of character and nuance perfectly balanced.
Every sold-out show is an opportunity to discover afresh the amazing strength of Arthur’s deep and abiding passion for his craft. This winter join Joseph Arthur and guests at City Winery for a unique and inspired series of very special shows.
About Chris Garneau
Garneau creates delicate pop songs that are infused with elements of jazz. They often only consist of piano and vocal parts, but Garneau is not afraid to use his voice in a way reminiscent of Regina Spektor to create diverse sounds, textures and emotions. This might not be coincidence, as it is obvious that he is a fan from a list of his "favorite enemies" on his myspace site. The third track on the album, 'Black & Blue', even shares a short piano part with Spektor's 'Samson'.
Garneau has drawn comparisons with Sufjan Stevens, specifically with his songwriting, vocal technique, and his delicate and relaxing melodies with Moldy-Peaches-esque charm. His originality can be easily heard on the final track of the album, 'Between The Bars', originally written and recorded by Elliott Smith (found on his album 'Either/Or'). Garneau makes this song his own, and for a listener who had not heard the original, this song would not be out of place on this record.
Garneau's latest effort El Radio continues to demonstrate that there is still a poignant melancholy and bold sincerity that permeates all of Garneau's music, but those qualities are augmented by a playfulness in his melodies and arrangements. Garneau's extensive cast of characters unavoidably comment on the social and political forces that pull us unpredictably through time while rollicking to the rhythms of an organ grinder.
