- Spain: Cheese and Wine - An Exploration of the senses.
- 6:00pm
We may love flamenco, bullfights, and siestas, but what we really admire most about Spain is the wine and cheese. Follow Wendy Crispell as she steps you through a selection of Spain's best offerings. In this social setting, Wendy will lay out a plate of our favorites, whether its tangy La Serena, bold Monte Enebro or the much-acclaimed Manchego. On the wine side she'll set you straight on the great grapes like Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Albariño and cover the regions of Rioja, Jerez, and Catalonia. Taste, talk, and enjoy it all in the only working winery in Manhattan.
About Wendy Crispell
Wendy Crispell is a NY wine professional with a background rich in all things culinary. Her art of pairing flavors has been rewarded with winning multiple first place awards in national cocktail competitions including the prestigious Pernod Challenge in Paris. From the day she received her first cookbook at the age of five, Wendy has been hooked on learning about the culinary arts and sharing her expansive knowledge with others.
After 10 years behind the stove at her own bistro, Wendy's interest in artisanal cheese led her to complete both the Master and Professional Certificates, from The Artisanal Cheese Center in New York. Upon completion of these classes her love of wine pairings took hold and caused her to seek out more knowledge. After working for Kevin Zraly at his Windows on the World Wine School she went on to complete both the Intermediate and Advanced Certificates from London's prestigious Wine and Spirits Educational Trust, achieve her Certified Specialist of Wine status and to study abroad at both the Deutsche Wine Academy and Ecole Du Vin in Bordeaux, France.
In 2006 she left to explore the wine regions of Europe with stops in the fabulous fromage caves of France and the incredible cheese shops of London including the shrine of cheese - Neal's Yard Dairy. Upon her return to the states she got her hands dirty in the cellars of America's oldest wine region( the Hudson Valley) and continues her WSET and Society of Wine Educators studies. She founded Wendy Crispell Wine to share her enthusiasm for wine, cheese, spirits, beer and food pairing ideas in a fun, relaxed, educational way, leaving all the snobbery and intimidation at the door.
