TICKETS for JULY 30th

Along with the fragile coastal environment, residents and businesses along the Gulf Coast have suffered numerous setbacks in the past few years, still reeling and rebuilding from the devastation wrought by Katrina, this latest indignity will have far reaching effects for many years to come.

Please help mitigate those effects by supporting this series of benefit concerts. 100% of tickets proceeds will be donated equally to the Gulf Restoration Network, under the umbrella of healthygulf.org, and Global Green, globalgreen.org. Both non-profits have been hard at work along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle , supporting and assisting a coalition of stakeholders dedicated to protecting and restoring the Gulf of Mexico for the populations dependent on this imperiled natural treasure.

Ian Axel

Hailing from New Jersey (also known as the Garden State), Ian Axel (yes, that's his real name!) has blossomed into a singer-songwriter whose pop-driven piano-playing songs are nothing short of fun. Ian taught himself how to play the piano when he was just three-years-old, and 20 years later he barely goes a day without playing a few keys (and eating a PB&J sandwich - his fave!). In October of 2007, Ian had one of his songs make its TV debut on MTV's 'The Hills,' and ever since then he has been getting one piano key closer to being a household name. Ian's got KOL's breaker salute, does he have yours?

Ed Romanoff

Ed's journey into music began at seventeen with a used guitar and a John Prine songbook. This relationship lead him to some of the country's grittiest stages and most inspiring musical minds.
At 21, Ed hitched a ride to Wyoming, working a myriad of day jobs - branding cattle, teaching special education classes, apprenticing with a carpenter - while playing local venues in Jackson Hole and Casper after dark.

Following moves to Boston and Washington D.C., Ed founded the nine-piece New Orleans R&B funk ensemble The BlameHounds , playing at clubs like The Barns at Wolf Trap and The Bayou. Reviews often compared his voice to John Prine and Mark Knopfler, reminiscent of his roots. He continued playing shows, both with the BlameHounds and solo shows opening for various national touring acts.

The Madison Square Gardeners

The Madison Square Gardeners play "sing along song" rock 'n' roll. Claiming The Heartbreakers: both Petty and Thunders as their musical road map, the band has a powerful and exciting live show that has earned them support slots for the likes of The New York Dolls, Black Joe Lewis and The Honey Bears and even Southern Rock legends, Drivin' N' Cryin'. The bands acclaimed debut album "Don't Name The Pig" featured the song "My Ex-Girlfriend" which the Examiner.com named it's Number 1 Song Of The Year for 2009. 2010 has gotten off to a great start for the MSGrs with their song, "Everybody's Girl" peaking at number 6 on Amazon.com's most downloaded mp3's. The song is the first single off of their "Tune It Up, Dime It Out-EP," which the Cleveland Scene says, "...connects the musical dots between Tom Petty and Paul Westerberg."

Paula Valstein

Valstein came to NYC about four years ago after a two years spent in the Israeli military. She says, “New York was always a dream of mine, and so, one day I just bought a ticket and came.” But really, music was always Paula’s life. At the age of 4, she co-opted her Grandma’s piano and became obsessed and she’s been writing songs ever since.

Now, hunkered down in the big city, Valstein has released a self-titled EP, her debut offering. Paula is joined on the record by first class producers Sheldon Steiger, and James Walsh from Major Who Media, with help from a varied ensemble including, Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley), Lee Nadel (bass), Rodney Howard (drums) and Greg Toughey (guitar), among others.

“… if you haven't already heard of Paula Valstein then you soon will have. Possessing a rich and powerful voice she delivers each vocal as if it were her last. Her influences are as strong as they are varied and she incorporates them all in order to further her own unique style.” Joel Crane, NME

  The Spring Standards

The Spring Standards are an energetic force of three-part harmony circling over a rock n' roll sound with an old country aftertaste. From small towns to big cities, they explode on stage with spirit, spontaneity, and a style all their own. They are, in no particular order: James Cleare, James Smith and Heather Robb. Each member of the band is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and they use their strengths as a trio to create a sound that listeners might expect from a band twice their size. With an emphasis on three-part harmony and a variety of instrumental switching, their range and energy make each live show a unique event. Paste Magazine chimes "It's no easy task to find a country/folk haystack buried amongst noisy New York needles, but this winsome three piece rewards the hunter." The band's first full-length album Would Things Be Different, produced by Bryce Goggin, was released on April 13th of this year.

The Wellspring

Amid the grid of subway lines and rows of yellow cabs laid out like cornfields, a fateful meeting occurred in Manhattan. Just a few stories up from the roaring voice of the city THE WELLSPRING was quietly born.

Dov Rosenblatt was the lead singer and guitarist of local NY band Fools For April. It was FFA that led Dov to meet with Talia Osteen, who was then VP at a film production company, about placing his music in their films. Talia fell in love with Dov's music, and Dov discovered that Talia herself had sung in a band, prior to her career in film. Months later, mutual fans of each other, the two decided to take a stab at writing together. Talia sent Dov a torrent of poems. It was these poems that sparked him to write music fervently into the wee hours of morning. It was this music that would inspire her to sing again. Together, they discovered a wellspring of music. Talia quit her job and the pair spent all their free time writing and recording together in Dov's home studio.

Their music, which has been called "a mixture of The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, indie rock, and a touch of country," has taken off. The duo traveled west together to record their debut EP, to be released July 29th, with producer Bill Lefler (Dashboard Confessional, Ingrid Michaelson). The band was noticed by the CEO of LastMinuteTravel.com -- now the proud sponsor of The Wellspring's upcoming national tour this coming Fall and Winter.  The Wellspring will call Los Angeles home for a time, before striking out on the road to sing their songs across America.

Rich Pagano

New York City drummer Rich Pagano is way more than just a member of the hippest Beatle cover band you'll ever hear. He's also an accomplished singer and producer. As we journey through Rich's MD Online interview, we’ll learn that not only does he do a stellar job of providing the Lennon vocals and Ringo drumming with the popular Fab Faux, he's done some producing and playing with some of our industry's finest.

‘Rich Pagano + the sugarCane cups - The 12-song collection evokes soaring comparisons to The Beatles, solo Pete Townsend, Plastic Ono Band, Levon Helm and more, and marks the solo debut of Pagano, a respected New York sideman known for his expertise in producing, recording or playing drums live, with artists including Patti Smith, Rosanne Cash, Robbie Robertson, Ray Davies, Willie Nile, gospel icon Marie Knight, Joan Osborne, Levon Helm, Mott The Hoople legend Ian Hunter and the premier Beatles band The Fab Faux, among others.

Pagano’s album features a Who’s Who of guest artists, ranging from Phish’s Trey Anastasio (lead guitar) to David Johansen (harmonica) to Hunter and Nile (both as guest vocalists), The Fab Faux and more.

Pagano, who performs lead vocals on all tracks, says his solo songwriting emerged from a tumultuous period in his life. From watching 9/11 first hand, to alcohol and opiate issues that surround him...from bad business deals to political disappointments and other levels of temptation, his debut collection chronicles a whirlwind episode of desperation and emotional extremes: "These songs are a bloodletting. Some people find religion, join a racket club or get divorced to save themselves. I decided to lock myself in my studio for a year.”

ABOUT THE GULF RESTORATION NETWORK

GRN is a 16 year old environmental non-profit organization committed to uniting and empowering people to protect and restore the natural resources of the Gulf Region for future generations.  As the only environmental organization working Gulf-wide, they are working hard to respond to the disaster in the Gulf.  To learn more about their history, check out: www.healthygulf.org; and to read about their oil response efforts, check out: http://BPdrillingdisaster.org.

Since the first days of BP's oil drilling disaster, the Gulf Restoration Network has provided independent monitoring and advocacy focused on holding BP accountable and ensuring an effective and transparent response to the crisis. Take action, stay informed, and donate to these efforts at http://BPdrillingdisaster.org.

ABOUT GLOBAL GREEN USA

Global Green USA – the American arm of President Gorbachev’s Green Cross International - is a national environmental organization whose mission is to reconnect humanity with the environment. Global Green opened a New Orleans office shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf to create a model green city by rebuilding healthy, energy-efficient homes, schools and communities. According to Time Magazine, “no organization is doing more to green New Orleans than Global Green USA...”

Global Green is now responding to the nation’s largest environmental disaster by supporting the communities impacted, helping to document the devastation, and fighting for more legislative regulation of the oil industry and increased investment in renewable energy and clean technologies.
