Join us for the third and final night of benefit shows to help raise funds for rebuilding and restoration relief along the Gulf Coast as a result of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill disaster.
Artist to perform July 30th include:
Amber Rubarth
Vienna Teng,
Martin Rivas,
Christina Courtin,
Among the Oak and Ash
plus many more to be confirmed.
Along with the fragile coastal environment, residents and businesses along the Gulf Coast have suffered numerous setbacks in the past few years, still reeling and rebuilding from the devastation wrought by Katrina, this latest indignity will have far reaching effects for many years to come.
Please help mitigate those effects by supporting this series of benefit concerts. 100% of tickets proceeds will be donated equally to the Gulf Restoration Network, under the umbrella of healthygulf.org, and Global Green, globalgreen.org. Both non-profits have been hard at work along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle , supporting and assisting a coalition of stakeholders dedicated to protecting and restoring the Gulf of Mexico for the populations dependent on this imperiled natural treasure.
Acoustic guitars meet ambient loops on Manhattan's Lower East Side, with a sprinkling of rock and roll to boot... Charisma and undeniable warmth are just two of the many qualities Martin Rivas brings to the stage with his infectiously melodic songs and beaming smile. This West Village and Lower East Side mainstay has made a name for himself in New York City as one of the hardest working musicians around, playing gigs nearly every night that feature both original work and longtime favorites.
Along with establishing the beloved Campfire series with drummer Craig Meyer which holds long-running weekly residencies at several top city venues, Rivas has also taken the stage at spots such as the legendary Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, the NYC River to River Festival, Joe's Pub, and The Living Room. He was a finalist in the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle 2009 contest for his song, “North,” in addition to releasing his fourth full-length CD, Sea of Clouds, this past August, an album that takes us on an intimate journey down the winding roads of emotion this singer has traveled over the years.
Martin has been fortunate enough to share the stage with artists like Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Aimee Mann, legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb, Gov't Mule, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Live, Joan Jett, Hootie & the Blowfish, and many more.
Martin is a true diamond in the rough, engaging the audience, singing from his soul, and reminding us all of the power and simplicity of raw, honest, music for music’s sake.
"After winning 1st place in the International Songwriting Contest (judged by Tom Waits), touring Europe 5 times, garnering widespread praise, and boasting over a million and a half listeners on MySpace, Amber Rubarth is poised to conquer the world of folk pop with her wide- eyed, optimistic songs.” -CDBaby.
Take the timelessness of Patsy Cline. Mix in the insatiable curiosity of Socrates. Give it an edge, a roughness, refined in the spirit but raw in the performance, like someone singing in the shower. You'll start to have an idea of what makes AMBER RUBARTH.
At 17 years old, Amber moved to Nevada to become a chainsaw sculptor. Three years later she decided to pursue her number one passion, trading her chainsaw for a guitar. She began touring and immediately people took notice of her unique approach of sculpting stories through song, working her way around and chipping away until the truest form inside beamed to life.
Her fan-funded album “Good Mystery” has attracted widespread praise since its sold out release at New York City’s legendary theater, Joe’s Pub, where it immediately hit #1 on the charts at Amie Street and remained for the following two weeks. Her distinctive blend of nuanced indie folk nabbed her a feature spot on The Huffington Post, a Sun Studio session, and a much-chatted-about performance at SXSW ’09.
A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City, Christina Courtin occupies the middle ground between contemporary folk, vocal jazz, and alternative pop/rock. The New York native began studying violin at three years old, and her quick mastery of the instrument led to an interest in singing, songwriting, and performing. After enrolling at the Juilliard School, she began collaborating with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Dawn Upshaw, and Osvaldo Golijov, utilizing her talents as both a vocalist and violinist. Upshaw's longtime label, Nonesuch Records, took an interest in Courtin, who eventually signed with the label and decamped to L.A. to record her debut record. The self-titled album appeared in 2009, featuring production from Courtin and two of her bandmates.
She shares her name with the Austrian home of Mozart and Beethoven. And she herself studied classical piano from the age of five. But there's nothing old-world about the music of Vienna Teng, whose Zoë/Rounder Records debut brings to mind artists as diverse as Tori Amos, Simon & Garfunkel and Radiohead.
"People used to ask what kind of music I played and I never knew how to answer that," says Teng. "I work a lot with classically trained musicians, but most of my influences are from 1970s-era folk music. So now I call it chamber folk." She adds: "I'm always looking for the perfect pop song combined with an unexpected amount of depth; that's my idea of great music."
Among The Oak & Ash is an ever evolving and changing collection of musicians playing songs based on and inspired by the traditional folk music of Appalachia. Led by American singer songwriter Josh Joplin, Among the Oak & Ash released their debut self-titled album in June of 2009 on Verve Records.
Joplin first became enthralled with Appalachian music when he was introduced to Cari Norris, the granddaughter of the late Lily May Ledford, an original Coon Creek Girl and the first all-women string band in radio. “I was like a wide-eyed anthropologist explaining my important new discovery of a lost culture to an audience of its descendents.” For him, it’s that elemental connection to traditional music and its humanity he returns to when he needs to be reminded “that there is something bigger in this world that threads us all to one another.”

ABOUT GLOBAL GREEN USA
Global Green USA – the American arm of President Gorbachev’s Green Cross International - is a national environmental organization whose mission is to reconnect humanity with the environment. Global Green opened a New Orleans office shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf to create a model green city by rebuilding healthy, energy-efficient homes, schools and communities. According to Time Magazine, “no organization is doing more to green New Orleans than Global Green USA...”
Global Green is now responding to the nation’s largest environmental disaster by supporting the communities impacted, helping to document the devastation, and fighting for more legislative regulation of the oil industry and increased investment in renewable energy and clean technologies.
