Klezwoods-Boston’s Euro-Balkan jazz-infused klezmer rockers-are an ensemble that performs music of the Jewish, Eastern European and Arabic music traditions with a modern edge. The band is an amalgam of strings, horns and percussion that melds the spirit of these styles with modern grooves, improvisation and melodies. Each world renowned player comes from a different musical background which adds to the unique, fun and complex tones. In the spirit of America's melting pot, these voices are brought together to make a new sound that is truly their own, while still embracing the cultures from which the music is stemmed.
The ensemble got their start in the winter of 2007 when bandleader Joseph Kessler put together a group of klezmer musicians for a Christmas event at a local music venue. The show was received so well that they decided to perform regularly and have since played all over Boston, the northeast and overseas. Some notable venues include The Kennedy Center (D.C), The Regattabar, The Beehive, the Boston Jewish Music Festival and VI Annual Helsinki Klezmer Festival in Finland. Klezwoods puts on a truly amazing performance that excites and entertains a wide variety of audiences all over the world!
