Eric Asimov names Lieb Cellars Pinot Blanc one of the Top 12 Great American Wine Values: ‘…it is simply delicious: dry and creamy with lightly herbal, mineral flavors. The texture draws you in.’
Since Mark and Kathy Lieb acquired their Long Island vineyard in 1992, they implemented a unique approach, eliminating the use of all herbicides in this growing region. According to Mark: “We’ve been extremely protective of the environment since my wife Kathy and I started the vineyard in 1992, because this is our home, and not just a commercial vineyard.’ Lieb Cellars will continue to employ these good practices to preserve the environment.
Winemaker Russell Hearn of Lieb Cellars will present five wines including some reserve and library selections, each paired with the perfect cheese from Murray’s.
Lieb Cellars Pinot Blanc 2010 - Straw yellow in color, citrus, apple and minerals on the nose. This stainless steel fermented wine has flavors of white peach, slight tangerine and lemon citrus. The finish is dry with good acidity making this a great food wine.
Lieb Cellars Reserve Chardonnay 2008 - Light golden hue, subtle aromas of pear and baked apple quickly develop into lush, nutty lees characters. The palate is rich with creamy apples and a touch of vanilla. This wine is partially barrel fermented which adds structure without masking the fruit.
Lieb Cellars Rosé 2012 - Medium salmon color. Soft aromas of strawberries and watermelon on the nose along floral nuances. On the palate, creamy strawberries with firm acid leading to a dry finish.
Lieb Cellars Reserve Merlot 2005 - A wine with deep garnet color. The nose exhibits cedar, smoke, ripe plum and cassis continuing onto the palate. A rich, complex wine with silky tannins that will soften with age.
Lieb Cellars Right Coast Red 2010 - Bright ruby red in color. Aromas of black cherry and black tea. There are ripe fruit flavors of cherry pits and plums with hints of coffee on the palate. This is a blend of 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. A wine that should age over the next 5-7 years.
