Description
Windsor Oaks Vineyard, a 710 acre private family owned estate with the top 260 acres planted in world class vineyards, is located in Sonoma's overlapping Chalk Hill and Russian River Valley AVA's. The vineyards are split into over 60 separate hand farmed mountain and hillside blocks that span almost 1000 feet of vertical change from the foggy Russian River Valley floor, rapidly climbing up the steep, windy front face of the Mayacamas Mountains that separate Sonoma and Napa.
The Windsor Oaks Petit Verdot is grown high on a mountain slope in classic Chalk Hill well drained volcanic basalt soil with low fertility and very little water. Our block at Windsor vineyard is facing south, 30% slope, usually 2.5 tons per acre max, really small dense berries, all picked cold, by hand at dawn.
The mountain blocks of Bordeaux varietals at Windsor Oaks have produced a series of highly scored wines including a Wine Enthusiast 94 for Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a crown jewel vineyard with richly diverse terroir showing consistently intense flavor, color and concentration from low yield vines across all varietals.
Wine Style: Inky color with a rich texture and complex layers of ripe black cherry, juicy wild berries, cassis, hints of vanilla, cocoa and spiced herbs, impressive back born allowing years of aging capacity.
